Dirndl-Dress customers of the year 2004 is the Cook family - John Paul, Shelly and the toddlers Anna Christa and Alexandra - all dressed in traditional Austrian clothing. They visted Austria a few weeks ago and met with Rosemarie and Michael in Vienna.
This is what John Paul told us:
"Although our names don't sound it we have very strong German and Austrian roots. I was born in Stuttgart/Germany and Shelly's family originated in Austria before they finally relocating to America in 1734." .
And here the story of their *Austrian* family business:
In the mid 1990s John Paul discovered the Steiermark (a southern part of Austria) with its delicious traditional/natural food products. He immediately felt an affinity and closeness to the people, culture, and landscape of the Steiermark and especially to the famous pumpkin oil produced there.
Shortly after returning to the United States John Paul got the phone call that would change his life "Zo I hear you vant to zell pumkin ol in Amerika!" John Paul figured nothing ventured, nothing gained and so he started a new business - selling pumpkin oil in America. The first few years were tough, Americans only associated pumpkins with Halloween or pies and breads. Now after nearly a decade he has succeeded in not only putting pumpkin seed oil in the American culinary dictionary but also a host of other products direct from the "Bauernhof" as well.
One day while conducting a tasting demonstration in a specialty store the owner asked why he didn't have any Austrian Clothes? He always admired the Trachten look - but where get these clothing for a good price?
That is when they discovered the Dirndl-Dress Store on the internet. Now the whole family - Shelly, John Paul as well as Anna Christa (2) and Alexandra (1) are properly dressed for their family business!
