Charivari or: *Jumbled Up* on Your Lederhosen or Dirndl

Sound of Music in dirndls and lederhosenCharivari (which mans "jumbled up") is the Bavarian name for a chain - originally only worn by men - which is stretched over the belly and has various different pendants like teeth of animals, coins, amulets with the picture of a saint against diseases. May either be a chain (kette) across the mid-section or a pin (stecker) worn at the hip. Although it was traditionally worn by men this nice jewelry was recently adopted by woman to wear on dirndl dresses or skirts or suits.
